Dozene Joyner Pierce, 92, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Mrs. Pierce, a native of Garysburg, was the daughter of the late William Henry Joyner and Mary Ann Suiter Joyner. She was preceded in death by her husband Seldon Mitchell Pierce and her son, Seldon Mitchell Pierce, Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Pierce Jenkins and her husband, Samuel Clark Jenkins of Tarboro; two sisters, Ann Joyner Selden and Constance Joyner Metcalf, both of Roanoke Rapids; four grandchildren, Louise Jenkins Stowe and her husband, David, Emily Pierce Jenkins, Eliza Jenkins Stoecker and her husband, Chris; Samuel Clark Jenkins, Jr. and his wife, Eden; four great grand children, Martha Louise Wilson Stowe, Marion Allen Suiter Stowe, Jane Pierce Stoecker and Samuel Clark Jenkins III.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Friday, March 20, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Garysburg United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Sue Owens and Rev. William Smyth officiating.
